About Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani

Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani is a distinguished academic leader, researcher, and higher education administrator with extensive experience in university governance, academic development, and international collaboration. He currently serves as the Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, where he provides strategic leadership in advancing academic excellence, research innovation, and institutional growth.

He is also a Visiting Professor in the Department of Accounting & Economics at Sol Plaatje University, South Africa, reflecting his active engagement in global academic exchange and cross-border knowledge sharing. In addition, he holds key leadership positions in several national and international professional organizations, including President of the Bangladesh Society for Private University Academics (BSPUA), Vice-President of the Federation of Bangladesh Human Resource Organizations (FBHRO), and Advisor to the Bangladesh Australia Trade and Investment Council (BATIC), Sydney.

Academic Background

Prof. Sobhani has a strong interdisciplinary academic foundation. He completed his BBA and MBA in Accounting from the University of Chittagong, followed by a second Master’s degree in Project Management from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. He earned his PhD from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia. He is also a certified Scrum Master from Scrum Inc., USA.

Professional Experience

With over two decades of experience in academia and professional leadership, he has served in multiple senior roles, including Professor, Dean, Director, Campus Chief, Doctoral Supervisor, and External Examiner at various reputed universities in Bangladesh and abroad. Prior to his academic career, he worked in the corporate sector as a Financial Analyst and Company Secretary at Credit Rating Information and Services Ltd. (CRISL), Dhaka.

Research and Academic Contributions

His research interests include corporate disclosure, human resource management, leadership, and sustainable organizational practices. He has secured research grants, published extensively in reputed international journals, and contributed significantly to academic advancement through teaching, supervision, and scholarly leadership.

Prof. Sobhani has held several notable leadership positions, including Professor & Dean at DIU and IIUC, Chief of Permanent Campus at IIUC, Company Secretary and Financial Analyst at CRISL, Secretary General of FBHRO, and Head of Department and MBA Program Coordinator at IIUC.

Beyond academia, he actively contributes to social development. He serves as Chairman of Pulerghat Welfare Trust, Kishoreganj, and Founder Chairman of BSHRM Chittagong, focusing on community welfare and professional development initiatives.
