Biography
About the Vice-Chancellor
Prof. Dr. Farid Ahammad Sobhani is the Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and a Professor of Accounting & HRM. He also serves as a Visiting Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at Sol Plaatje University (SPU), South Africa, and at the Accounting Research Institute (ARI), Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia.
He is the President of the Bangladesh Society for Private University Academics (BSPUA), Vice-President of the Federation of Bangladesh Human Resource Organizations (FBHRO), a Board Member of Agile in Education (AiE), USA, and an Advisor to the Bangladesh Australia Trade and Investment Council (BATIC), Sydney. He is also a qualified Scrum Master from Scrum Inc., USA.
Over more than two decades, he has served in senior academic and leadership roles — Professor, Visiting Professor, Dean, Campus Chief, Director, Doctoral Supervisor and External Examiner — at leading public and private universities in Bangladesh and abroad. Before entering academia in 1998, he worked in the corporate sector as a Financial Analyst and Company Secretary at Credit Rating Information and Services Ltd. (CRISL), Dhaka.
His research focuses on corporate disclosure, human resource management, leadership and sustainable organizational practices. He has secured internal and external research grants, published extensively in reputed international journals, and received prestigious awards for academic leadership, research excellence and best papers. Most recently, he delivered the keynote address at the 2026 Graduation Ceremony (Convocation) of Sol Plaatje University, South Africa.
To bridge academia with industry, strengthen international collaboration, and develop future-ready graduates equipped with innovation, leadership and ethical values to serve society effectively.
